Graphic Novels
Dancing at the Pity Party by Tyler Feder:
This story was very chill but also very emotional. I could really tell that Tyler put her heart into this book as a coping mechanism. I really enjoyed the book because of the beautiful pictures and the heartfelt diction. I enjoyed this read. 9.5/10

I Was Their American Dream by Malaka Gharib:
I really empathized with Malaka in this story about her life because of the expectations her parents had of her. I also enjoyed how her identity shifted as the book went on and she grew up. I enjoy this book 8/10.

"I was their American" is a fun graphic memoir telling the life story of Malaka Gharib, the daughter of two first generation immigrants who grew up in nearly opposite situations. I personally thought it was very interesting and a nice quick read with entertaining cartoon-like illustrations.
Dancing at the Pity Party by Tyler Feder
"Dancing at the Pity Party" is a graphic memoir describing Tyler Feder's life experiences specifically dealing with the early loss of her mom, who died of cancer at a relatively young age. I really enjoyed reading it. It was interesting to learn little things about Jewish culture and also really cool to see the perspective of a person who didn't let a terribly unfortunate event ruin her life.

Ain't Burned All the Bright by Jason Reynolds
Summary: A short, poetic story about problems with people. The way we treat the planet and other people are talked about, along with a need to slow down, enjoy the moment, and breathe.
Review: It was very short, which was a nice refresher from most of the other books. It had a style of writing which provides many interpretations to it, and that was very good. I think it was the art that had most of the meaning though, with many elements of surrealism in them. I would probably read it again, simply to give more thought towards it. Very good if you want to think.
