Quintessence by Jess Redman:
Quintessence is a book about finding one's self. The book starts out with Alma moving forward because she moved away a few months ago. She lied to her parents when she told them her panic attacks stopped. She has no friends. One day she goes into the town's junk shop and finds a telescope and watches as a magical star falls from the sky. With help from the astronomy club she finds a way to help the star find its way home. I really enjoyed quintessence but the only downfall of the book was it was very predictable. I was very interested because of the use of astronomy. It also deals with light mental health issues after moving away. Overall I really enjoyed it, 10/10.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black:
Jude was 7 years old when her parents were slaughtered by Vivi's dad. He takes Jude, Vivi, and Jude's twin, Taryn to the land of Faerie. Jude wants nothing more than to become a knight on the royal court. The King's son is Prince Cardan, who has a deep hatred for mortals in the faerie world. In order to earn her spot on the court she has to defy Prince Cardan himself. Jude has to risk her life in order to save the ones she love and the whole kingdom of Faerie. This book was very confusing and I had to keep going to keep understanding all of it. The only thing I disliked in this book was it felt intangible to me. I kept confusing the "vocabulary" of the book. Also, Jude's character development was very quick and edgy. Overall I still would rate this book a 10/10 because of the amazing story inside the confusing bits and pieces.
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black:
This book is a really good read with lots of twists and turns. Really well-written fantasy world. The intricacy of this fantastical world is astonishing. I personally love the variety of characters.

The Unwanteds Series by Lisa McMann:
The world that the book is set in has seven islands where the story is set. The main island is called Quill, most of the people living on Quill hate creativity and every year they "purge" the creative people from their society.
The main character is one of the "unwanteds" named Alex which gets purged. You soon find out though that they won't be killed in the purge but that they will secretly be taught how to do magic using their creativity in a hidden place called Artime.
The main conflict is between Alex and his twin brother Aeron who didn't get purged and becomes very important in Quill.
Most of the books also include the Aritmeanse going from island to island learning more and more about their world and meeting a lot of trouble on their journeys.
Overall I really liked this series and I can't wait to read the next two books.

Fable by Adrienne Young
Summary: A young girl named Fable knows only the sea. Her mother drowned and her father abandoned her on an island full of thieves. She sets out to get off the island and find her father, wanting a place with him and his crew. To help her with this, she gets the help of a boy named West.
Rating: I have a hard time finding books that I like because I don't like the main character, but I absolutely loved this book! Fable is a strong female lead that I really enjoyed getting to learn about. I loved the relationship between the characters and getting to know them better. I'm going to see if I can find the next book in the series and get started on it right away!

If These Wings Could Fly by Kyrie McCauley
This book follows the story of an aspiring journalist high school senior Leighton Barnes who, along with her sisters and mother, are victims of domestic violence. However, despite the fact that it is obvious they are struggling with this, the small, proud town of Auburn does nothing to help but rather acts like it isn't happening. The Barnes' house also magically repairs itself as if to cover up the evidence of Leighton's dad's outbursts. Another important part of this book is the murder of crows that is amassing in Auburn. The book also covers Leighton's relationship with Liam McNamara. I personally did not think this was my type of story although it was very well written.

Blade of Secrets by Tricia Levenseller
Summary: Ziva is a smithy with a talent that makes her famous - she can make magic weapons. But when a warlord bent on world domination commissions a weapon, Ziva makes her most powerful weapon ever, but could have cataclysmic effects if it falls into the wrong hands.
Review: It was a great book, with an interesting subject. I personally wasn't a fan of the romance, but that's just my opinion. It has a great storyline, with an even better ending. I saw some of the twists in it coming before they were revealed, but also missed some. I like it, and would recommend it.

We Can Be Heroes by Kyrie McCauley
Summary: Beck is an artist, and has had a love of art since her childhood. But after a school shooting, her life and everything around is changed. When she decides to start doing graffiti in her hometown and discovers a ghost in her van, a plan of revenge against the local gun company comes together.
Review: The book had an interesting storyline, and was very well structured. It was very critical of guns, showing them to be killing machines. The subject, gun control, also didn't interest me too much. It was a good book though.
